I'm looking for a bike store in the northern Virginia/Washington DC
area that sells road bikes. My daughter, who lives in Vienna VA, has
visited several stores in the area who sell only mountain bikes.

I recently saw in rec.bicycles an endorsement of
Proteus Design and a resounding put-down of
several other bike shops in the DC area.
My brother purchased a road bike from Proteus
about 20 years ago - so they've been around
a while. They are in Maryland - used to
be just west of the 495/Route-1 exit in
Beltsville. You'll want more recent
directions, of course ...
