| | I dont any more. I just dont put any bike I care about outside.
    That and hope a lot.

I had often thought about buying one of these kryptonite-type locks
which come with a `if your bike is nicked within a year due to our lock
failing then we replace' type guarantees, one each year; but I do not
trust that the payment would be easy to get.

Endsleigh used to do bike insurance quite cheap but it got
_badly_ abused - they may still do an insurance but it won't be cheap.

Finally you could try the BCF for details:
    	The British cycling Federation,
    	36 Rockingham way, Kettering, NN16-8HG

If you contact them I'd be interested in any feedback.

Better get insured before the bike snatching from Decpak starts again.

| | My household policy with Royal Insurance came with bicycle insurance
(any number of bikes, not exceeding 1000 pounds). I am in the process
of claiming 350 pounds for my Saracen Sahara ATB which was one of three
stolen from DECpark on the 5th of October. They not exactly fast with
settlement although they have not quibbled about anything so far. I
will post the outcome here (eventually).

| | Great to hear these words, my wife used to work for the Royal, and we always
reckoned that they were a bit expensive but worthwhile if you had to claim.
The problem with most insurances is that they find it difficult to come to terms
with the fact that the frame is a Swifty Special, the saddle a Brooks and oh yes
I bought the rims in a sale and built them onto a pair of hubs I had in the
shed... Well, you get the idea, if you can get a clause saying "cycle kit to
the value of xxxx" all the better. As for accident insurance I had quite a
lengthy battle to convince them I could only run down one old lady at a time
seeing that the other bikes were home in the garage....

| | Well, as a cyclist whose bike was recently lifted from DECpark in Reading,
U.K., I have recently benefitted from asking around about the various forms of
insurance. So far, the consensus is that adding the bikes to your home
insurance is the optimal solution. Not that it is perfect!
The good side:
	1. far cheaper than special policies
	2. only one insurance renewal
	3. easier to negotiate
The bad side:
	1. depreciation of your investment - I have yet to find a policy added
to home insurance which allows true replacement value (unless the bike
	is very new)
So, I would recommend adding your bikes onto your existing home insurance. In
the recent case, I was 'lucky' enough to have my bike stolen when the '91
models are on sale. At least I am not out of pocket.

Bicycling Mgazine ran an article by Nelson Pena about home owners and
renters insurance floaters for bicycles. However, none of the
insurance companies here in Georgia seem to know what I'm talking
about. What insurance company do you use? What type of coverage do
    you have for your bikes?
