A suggestion for a good Bike and Nature Walk. Just around the corner from
Yokens is the Urban Forestry Center which can be biked to in a matter of
minutes from Yokens. The Urban Forestry Center has some fairly well maintained
dirt roads that loop around the park. There are trees and Flora and Fauna
from all over the country and the exhibits are labeled. There are picnic
tables, a small museum and a nature walk. The tour is free and self paced
and would be a great learning experience for girls. From Yokens turn left
at the traffic lights onto Elwyn rd. and the Urban Forestry Center is on
the Left ( only about 100 yds from from lights ). From the Urban Forestry
Center Ordiorne State Park is about 5 miles. Ordiorne is a great biking
place and is located right on the banks of Sagamore river and the Atlantic.
Odiorne was once a military outpost built during WWII to protect our coast
and Portsmouth Harbor from intruders. There are old Bunkers and lookout
posts which are being opened to the public. Odiorne also has a small seaside
museum geared towards children as well as restrooms a playground picnic area
and a beautiful view. There are bike/hiking paths that wind through Odiorne
past the old bunkers and along the seashore. Odiorne is a great place to
visit. We have taken our bikes to Odiorne many times and rode within the
park for hours. Both trips could easily be done the same day and most of
the riding could be done within the two parks themselves.
To get to Ordiorne take Elwyn rd. to Rt. 1B ( Rt. 1B is straight through the
intersection at the end of Elwyn Rd. ) Odiorne is approx 3 miles from this
intersection on left. There is an information booth at the entrance. You may
be able to get a map of the park there.
 Have Fun!
  Neil...
Feel free to call or send mail for more Information..

I'd like to thank Mary Roche and Anne McClure for their help with all those
Girl Scouts Saturday. The day was a real success. We even got the kids
to go 17 miles!
18 novice cyclists is quite a handful! The stress level is up there.
Now all I need to do is plan the week in June. It's a great group of kids so
I'm sure it'll be fun!
