| 1347.1 | TDT in MA?  Here's my "1st leg" | IAMOK::WESTER |  | Fri Oct 20 1989 13:08 | 17 |
| | TDT in Fitchburg? No, I haven't heard about this. Tell us more! It
    would be great to see the race come through Massachusetts.

    Lets see, If I were choosing a route and assuming they start in Boston,
    I'd send them west and make sure they hit Belmont Hill and then the
    frontage road west on route 2. next I'd send them up Trapelo road out
    of Waltham into Lexington and also up Bedford road leading back to
    route 2A. Now they can rest with rolling roads headed southwest through
    Concord, Sudbury into Marlboro and onto rt. 20 all the way to Northboro
    center.Then I surprise them with a trip out Howard st. and up Green st.
    in Northboro and follow that with Church st. (?) out to the road that
    circles the reservoir. Then they can stop :-). That's as far as I go,
    I'm sure there are some better, more torturous roads further west. My
    spot to view on the trip I described would be 2/3 of the way up Belmont
    hill or Green street. How's that route sound?

| | I know some of whence you speak. What I was told was that it would
    run through a small section of Fitchburg. It doesn't matter to me
    how much of Fitchburg it goes through. Anything close will make
    it very attendable and I'd love it!!!!!!!

| | How about a few hills in Harvard? Hope my snotty neighbors don't
    turn thumbs down like they did to the race we used to have. - Chris

| | Start in Fitchburg. Take RT 31 out to 140. Take a right on 140, then a
    left up the hill in front of the Mt Wachusett ski lodge. Then go up the
    mountain itself and back down. Continue to downtown Princeton and take
    RT 62 to Barre. That should take care of any hill requirements!
    Chip, I don't want to see you pulling any Rosie Ruiz out there! :^)

     Stages 6 and 7 seem to be the start of some of the real hard riding.
     I used to travel through Winchester and Harrisburg on my "swoops" home
     from Camp Lejeune back in the late 1960s. I vaguely remember lots of
     hills and a few small mountains.

	Today's USA Today has a map of the 1990 Tour de Trump (pg 12C, back
page of the sports section).
	The Massachusetts' stage is from Northhampton to Boston. From the look
of the map, I would guess they are going to use Rt 9 all the way....

| | Will someone be putting (are willing to) some details in here about
    the last stage, e.g. ETA in Boston, exactly where the finish line will
    be, best vantage points, etc... I definitely don't want to miss this!

| 1347.9 |  | EDIT::CRITZ | Greg LeMond - Sportsman of the Year | Tue Feb 13 1990 09:03 | 9 |
| | It would just be my luck to get a place near the finish
    	line and the have then move it at the last minute.

    	Once the course is set, I want to drive it and find the
    	steepest hill on the course. Then, I can take my camera
    	to that spot and [hopefully] get some great shots of
    	the leaders.

| 1347.10 | MAYBE THEY'LL SLOW DOWN TO 15 MILES AN HOUR | AKOV11::FULLER |  | Tue Feb 13 1990 11:17 | 4 |
| | If it's Route 9 as rumoured, I think Belmont Hill in Worcester will
    be a fun spot.
