| I have C-Record shifters and I can't remember ever having to tighten
them down to prevent slippage. There must be something wrong with
your particuler set up.

| I occasionally tighten the nut when I am riding, just out of habit.
Thinking about it, the C-record shifter I have needs tightening
less than my old Record set up. These shifters have a a brass washer
on the inside of the lever and two steel type on the outside. Don't
lubricate. The two washers on the outside may act as spacers.
Try removing one and tightening. (I haven't done this so do so at
your own risk).

| I should have prefaced this frustration with my agonizing frustration
with their SYNCHRO II disasters. Hence the threshold of getting
close to the BULLSH*T threshold. I dumped 'em at the dealer's
expense after many attempts to adjust them and went to the C
RECORD as the fix. I was hoping it would be. I'll check the
washer stuff out tonight. Thanks.

| I hear that Campy, after the big splash of their Mountain Bike
Gruppo, is coming out with shifters *specifically designed* for
fixed-gear bikes.
Sources indicate there is *no* slippage problem with these babies!

| Sounds like Campy is getting ready for a
hostile take-over by Huffy. Huffy has
had fixed gear shifting for years :-)

I have a syncro shifter. Can I return it for an improved version or
a refund? Do you do this through the dealer only or will Campy do it
direct?

If the dealer is any kind of "honest dealer" take it back
to him. He should know that Campy just can't hack it right now
in the indexing arena. As far as upgrading you'd have to look at
Shimano and probably changing your freewheel along with it. The
SYNCRHO II is an expensive set up. They cost more than C RECORD
which is what I went to when I complained.
My opinion, calling Campy is fine. I'll bet your call will be the
kazillionth on this topic. You won't be telling them a thing they
haven't heard.
My original problem mentioned in this note "ist kaput." I took
the shifter apart Saturday morning and sure enough, those little
concave washers were cupped inside one another. I reversed them
so they are now situated concavely opposite to one another. I
went all out Sunday (shifting my little heart out) without it even
thinking about loosening up. Thanks to all for the inputs.
