I've been looking for a touring bike for weekend recreational
use, for $300 +/-$50. I came across the Lotus Excelle for $339
at the International Bicycle Center. It was recommended over
the Bianchi Strada LX and Premio, and Peugot Bordeaux. My
questions are:
1. is the Lotus Excelle a better bike relative to others in that
price range?
2. is $339 a good price for the Lotus Excelle?
3. why are some dealers saying that Lotus is shutting down and
if that is the case, should I be concerned? [international
people told me that mom/pop stores don't carry lotus because
the company insists that stores buy in too large lots]
Other stores are steering me to Shogun and Miyata: how would they
rate in my price range?
I'll be making the purchase decision in a few days. Any other
advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rich

Yes, I'm in the same situation. And I saw the same bike
at the same store. It's a 1987 model, and the 88s are
more expensive. I've heard that the 89s will be more
expensive yet.
