| 849.1 | I think they are comparable. | NOVA::FISHER | BMB Finisher | Tue Sep 06 1988 09:16 | 6 |
| | SUPERBE PRO is really nice. I usually rotate the parts so I can
feel the smoothness of the bearing surfaces and have always
felt good about the Superbe Pro stuff. 600 EX felt about the
same. I have not yet drooled over 600 Ultegra.

-< Suntour Superbe Pro or Ultegra? >-
I have a Marinoni with Ultegra drivetrain and love it! I'd highly recommend
it. I never liked Suntour...I'm a dedicated Shimano freak!
That's a great price you've listed. What is it, end of year sale? My frame
cost me $625 US, about 3 months ago.

I/ve Been racing for three years on superbe Pro without even the
slightest problem. These components perform smooth and steady for
the longhaul and durability is very important when you ride and
    race alot.

| | Shimano seems to have the index shifting down pat, I cannot comment
on the Suntour. Suntour Superbe is a high-end component, it is
cold forged aluminum. This results in long wear charateristics,
ie: length of time before replacing chainrings. I have used and
have loved the Superbe brakes and pedals. An interesting experiment,
take off both wheels and compare the bearings, its not hard to judge
the quality difference here if there is any.

A more important question: Are the frames both designed the same?
If not, which one is better suited for your riding style?

| | Here in Europe, Miele is better known for their washing machines
than their bicycles. Marinoni is a guy who builds bikes, period,
in Canada. Those facts aside, you should still ride the bikes,
and buy the one that performs best.

Superbe Pro is a sleeper of a component line. It's not as
feature-laden as 600 Ultegra, but Ultegra has not been on the market
long enough for its reliability to be tested. Everybody I've known
who's owned Superbe (especially brakes and derailleurs) has loved it.
I have some hubs; they're smooth, not as fast rolling as Campy Record
(because they're sealed), but they require nearly zero maintenence.
They're on my training wheels, and I expect them to last forever.
The only problem with Superbe is getting parts when they finally
DO break. I have a seven-year-old Superbe derailleur that I broke
the tensioning spring to while I was cleaning it. After a year
of asking and scrounging, I STILL can't find a replacement spring!
    Suntour's US distributor is worthless.

| | I have had my Superbe Pro groupo for two years now and haven't
had the slightest complaint. The derailleurs are very smooth
and the durability of the components is excellent. I cannot
make comparisons with the Ultrega but I would certainly advise
any of my friends to buy the Superbe Pro
