    Dear all,

Our customer has GIGAswitch/ATM and Xylan OmniSwitch-9.
They bought OmniSwitch from Xylan reseller here. Now
they have problems in connecting the OmniSwitch to GIGAswitch.

Xylan's reseller engineer describe the problem as:
"LANE connection has experienced failure when the LEC on
Omni-9 can not reestablish link to LES/BUS services in the
    GIGAswitch".
The engineer has requested us to do one of the following steps
    to solve the problem:
    - set the Do_Keep_Alive flag to zero (0)
    - upgrade the firmware to 2.11a

    My questions:

    - Do we have the same problem with DECswitch 400?
    - Could someone please explain what is the Do_Keep_Alive flag?
(I can not find it in manuals)
... and how can set its value?
    - I know firmware version 2.11, but never hear 2.11a.
Is it the same as 2.11?

    best regards
    ivan sorano

| Ivan,

Can you give me some more information about this customer? Perhaps
you could send me email. 2.1.1a was built as a debug version to help
isolate a problem at one customer site. It has no bug fixes. The steps
listed above are part of the instructions given to help isolate this
problem, but did not seem to affect it. We are still working with the
original site to isolate this problem. It looks like you have another
customer seeing similar symptoms, and we would like to get more data.
Could you contact me so we can discuss?

The keep-alive flag is a debugging tool, not a customer feature. So
I'd expect the manual to say nothing about it.
    To set it, you type
            do_keepa = 1           to  enable UNI/ILMI keepalive polling
and the possibility that if the other
node doesn't respond, the GS/ATM will
be forced to declare the ILMI dead
    or do_keepa = 0 to disable UNI/ILMI keepalive polling
and pretend that ILMI is just fine
Note that the setting is NOT preserved in flash and that the new CLI
will prevent customers from accessing it.
