If it's the same roof mounting aerial as on my Corsa,it is unscrewable.
I found out one night whilst covering my car,and thought what a pain
    it was sticking up.

| | The rubber roof aerial on the Calibra is supposedly
carwash proof. I think it says so in the manual somewhere.
I haven't tested it though. I find washing by hand far
better than using the carwash.

How about high pressure water jets ? I only use these as they prove to
be better in terms of quality of job and better for the paintjob in the
    long term.

| | I've taken my Calibra through various car washes, and all OK.

it's also got one of those roof mounted flexible 9-inch aerials.

I did hear a story about a BMW dealer in Colchester. They had their own
car wash, and one morning they drove a nice big Beemer into the wash
for its final wash before delivery.

One it was in they found that the local vandals had tied bolts onto the
    brushes.........

Ever since I heard that I avoid brush washes! 8^)

| | My wire coat hanger always gets caught up in the swirly brushes. It`s a
right piggin pain, so I just don`t wash it anymore.

My previous car and my current car both have roof-mounted aerials
(citroen bx and renault 19 16v) all I do on the rare occasions it goes
through a brush car wash (usually hand wash myself) is to push the
aerial down flat on the roof, seems to do the trick!

My roof mounted ariel telescopes down, as did my previous one.
For those that don't, isn't there anything in the handbook about it?

| | My new shape Astra has a short roof mounted aerial. It does unscrew
and the manual says it is safe in car washes.
