| | John,
You might want to consider a compromise between your (potential)
early morning travel problems and your long term parking needs.

Earlier this year (July) when we were flying to Greece (checkin
@Gatwick 5:30 am), we chose to spend the preceding evening at the
Gatwick Holiday Inn. This gave us:

"Kids (under 16) go free" - as per usual with Holiday Inns

Short journey (9 miles) to Gatwick airport on actual morning of
        travel

TWO WEEKS parking included in room price (floodlight carpark
        monitored by CCTV)

Use of courtesy coach from hotel/airport and airport/hotel on
return. (Runs from 6:00am - we could not use this due to v. early
        checkin - got taxi instead).

Not sure what the current room price is - you may want to give them
    a ring!

    Steve.

| 1903.2 | Eats into the spending money! | VOGON::KAPPLER | Dover, Rising more slowly, Good | Sun Oct 04 1992 09:16 | 11 |
| | Thanks Steve, but I've considered that, and we would need two hotel
rooms (six of us) and would still have to pay parking after the second
week. Hotel rooms are 79.50 each, plus 2.95 per day parking for the
    third week.

So car on the morning of departure still seems the best bet.

    Cheers,

    John

When travelling from Gatwick, I use
    Gatwick Motors,
    Charlwood Park,
    Horley.
    0293-784971
I used them twice last year, in January 2 per day, in April 2.60.
These were both special offers, I think they're normally about 3 quid
per day, but they may be less now that Summer's gone.
Takes about ten minutes to reach Gatwick.

| | Any new recommendations for long term parking at Gatwick ?

I phoned Gatwick Motors, mentioned in .3, and their current rates are
3.10 per day going up to 3.90 if booked after Feb 14th. They run a
regular courtesy coach to the airport.

| | I have used Coutlands several times, I don't know if they are the cheapest,
but they give me a discount from normal rates. I have not checked recently
what their current rates are. I have always had good service from them.

| | I always use BCP, recently because they give airmiles, but always
because they are efficient and reliable. Also I feel that their
compound is secure, and I know that they aren't going to drive my car
more than a few hundred yards! Finally, I've been there so often, I can
get there on autopilot even when arriving at 5am :-)

| 1903.7 | Try hotel ? | SUBURB::GROOMN | Atherton does it with dirty balls | Mon Jan 30 1995 09:53 | 7 |
| | A few hotels around Gatwick will let yuu have free parking if you stay
for one night. The deal was on some TV holiday prog recently and was
something like stay in our hotel (30 quid double room + brekky) and get
one week free parking and a quid a day thereafter. Not a bad deal,
particularly if you have an early flight to catch.
