Just wondering why this note stopped, according to the schedule three
of the ten f3000 events have been held and so far no results?

    A very under=promoted series.

| | I saw the Barcelona race on some satellite TV channel or other.
Not a bad race at all, that took place in front of empty spectator
enclosures. Under-promoted maybe. Ill-conceived perhaps. Poorly attended
definitely. Will the FIA ever manage to bridge the gulf between F1 and
    the rest?

    Ed.

PS. The race was indeed not bad, but would have been much better if
Naspetti hadn't tried to drive through the Frenchman in front of him
just as a three-way battle for the lead was shaping up.

1st start given on a wet track. Race stopped after 4 laps due to Badoer
spinning at Eau-Rouge uphill and severely crashing into the Armco. Driver
was extracted from the wreck in about 30 minutes and sent to hospital.
Fortunately Badoer is only suffering minor injuries and should be back in
2 weeks for the Albacete race in Spain.
Race sestarted. Final result by addition of the 2 half-races. Montermini
left Il Barone Rampante a few days before the race and took the seat
vacated by Naspetti now driving for March in F1. It was a good move since
he entirely dominated the whole weekend.

| 1753.14 | Who is the next Mansell? | CHEFS::MARCHR |  | Fri Oct 16 1992 19:02 | 14 |
| | It seems a great shame that Coulthard and McNish don't get the
recognition their talent deserves (perhaps they do - but I never hear
    about it).

I used to race Karts when they were. Both were head and shoulders (well
McNish is quite small) above the rest. They had as much talent as any
of the Euro Karters, who are now moving on to higher things.

As a benchmark, Johnny Herbert was just considered a bit of a "pot
hunter" when he raced Karts. Whilst the real talent in Karting was
racing 100 National, he raced the virtually dead 100 International just
to get the "British Champion" status. Nice guy, but he's not that
quick. The guys that Herbert decided not to race were blown away when
McNish and Coulthard moved up to Seniors.

    Interesting comments.

Coulthard is doing well in F3000 (well, fairly well), but McNish has
been made to look very ordinary in the few seasons of F3000 he's done
and Malboro have now pulled the plug on his budget, leading to him
loosing his drive for the last two F3000 races of this year.

I've never rated McNish (as a spectator), but, given your comments, I
wonder if he's really strong enough to drive the big F3000 and F1 cars?

| | Mark,

Yes, good point - I never really thought of the physical side of it.
In terms of aggression, Coulthard looked better I suppose, and he seems
to have maintained that in F3000. At that level it's taken as read that
you are quick - the rest is development driving and nerve (and
politics?). Still, I will resist making too many comments - in case I
am picked up by one of the many F1/F3000 "experts". Only joking guys, I
can see how serious you take it!

Rupert, unless you are discussing the driving habits or peccadillos of Messrs.
Senna, Mansell or Prost then you are on pretty safe ground.
