    Recently (about 3 weeks ago) I chanced upon a Shell garage (nr Watford
    if you're interested) which had a Jetstream Car Wash. Now, I'd never
    used one of them before, but, if you don't know, the idea is that you
    drive in, and there are no brushes. Water is scooshed (no English
    equivalent!) at the car at high pressure and you get a fair old
    buffeting.
    
    I thought this was brilliant. Mainly because it didn't put the the
    driving mirrors at jaunty angles, and also because I didn't need to
    unscrew the ariel.
    
    But now ... its gone. The garage said that people preferred the
    brushes, and that brushes cleaned the car better. I'm dubious. I like
    the Jet Stream. Where can I find one around Basingstoke?
    
    Anyway - this Shell garage has the WORST petrol pumps I've ever used.
    The petrol leaks out of the pump no matter which one I use, and how far
    I shove it in the tank, and how gently I squeeze the trigger.

    Complain to the garage. If they show apathy, tell them you know the
    local fire officer and will tell him.
    
    It's amazing how quickly it gets fixed. If it doesn't, phone the fire
    station and tell them the story. They'll either get it fixed or close
    it down.

          I reported my local Shell garage for a simular problem, in this
    case the pump did not click off when the level in the tank reached the
    nozel ( Thus I got about 2-3 pints all over me ), I told the attendant
    who said that I was not the first to complain about it that week, and
    then continued serving and showed very little concern.
    
    The firestation said they would check the pumps out .

there is the Nissan Garage (HERDS??) on the roundabout near the firestation.

They have a squirt wash.

The JET Garage by J. Davy also have one.

    Pretty sure there's one at the garage just round the corner from the
    Golden Lion (near the Crescent).
