Rust can be a major problem with the older Range Rovers - particularly
around the tailgate and the inner wings. Also if someone has been
having fun with it off-road - there could be all sorts of possible
problems. If the chassis is good, then you have the basis for
re-building a vehicle - since all parts are available (in UK anyway)
but you could be in for a lot of time and expense! What engine is in
    it?

I don't know how much you would expect to pay for a Range Rover in
Germany, but in the UK I believe 1000 would only get you a vehicle
    which 'needs some work'.

| | Chassis rust will be the major problem. The further back along the
chassis the worse the problems are likely to be.

The V8 engine with a high mileage is likely to need an expensive
overhaul especially if oil changes have been missed. Look for all the
usual tell-tale signs of heavy smoke on acceleration, odd noises and
    general poor performance.

Transmission could be troublesome - listen for groans and rumblings but
expect a certain amount of backlash especially in the centre diff. Try
it in low range and listen carefully. Don't forget low reverse. The
extra torque soon finds the faults.

Steering parts take a hammering and power steering boxes are expensive.
Front swivels should be bright and free af rust and pitting.

Corrosion of tailgate, bonnet and worst of all, bulkhead are a problem
and fixings where galvanitic action between the aluminium body and the
    steel parts has left holes.

Apart from that, it should be OK.

| | Rob,

Don't forget to get under the car and look for physical signs of
off-road use... knocks and dents in etc...

I shall wander round and take a close look at it (if I ever get paid

	Re .1
I would have thought that for 1000 in the UK you'd be lucky
to get a Range Rover in boxes... anything that will make it
to the end of the road is worth 2k. The one in .0 probably
has a mini engine in it or something ;-)
