    With the Paris -> Dakar rally having started yesterday, I have my first
    question regarding the timing of the first stage.
    
    Jacky Ickx was recorded as having covered the first 370 mile stage in 2
    hours, 6 minutes and 51 seconds.  This equates to an average speed of
    just below 185mph !!!  The data was sourced from CEEFAX, ORACLE and the
    Daily Telegraph, can anyone tell me what I'm missing ?

    Is there possibly a bogey time, and the time recorded is the time
    in excess of that time? Or does he just drive VERY fast! :^)

    Perhaps it was 370 kilometres ?
    
    That would get the average down to about 115mph, wouldn't it ?
    
    Still fast, but at least it sounds possible.
    Is this first 'stage' the road route from Paris towards the Med. ?

    Yesterdays stage was 594 kms from Ghadames - Idri. 
    
    As .0 said, the time given 2h 6'51", but that's the total time penalties.
    I'll put the latest placings for cars and bikes in Vogon next week.
