My car has a Pioneer KEH xxxx (not sure of the number)

loc usually switches the radio from local to distant mode (There should be
an indicator next to the frequency readout). In local mode, it only picks
up strong stations.

ps (I think) is program search, where it tries out all the pre set programs.

To set program 1, hold down program 1 for about 3 seconds.

Your radio may also have a button for automatically programming the six 
strongest stations (useful when driving about). This is called AST on Phillips,
can't remember what they call it on Pioneers.

Well, to program my KEH 4xxx, you use the ">" or "<" buttons with the "SEARCH"
indicator showing (press the "SEARCH" button !) and when you have the frequency
you want, press "MEM" and then the channel number (1 to 6 on mine). The "BAND"
button selects which of the four banks of six channels you wish to select.

But, since the Pioneer is now 3.5 years old it may not be the same as yours !

    While on the topic of Car Radios...
    
    My Father has a JVC radio cassette in his car.  I brought it second
    hand and installed it for him.  The problem is that the clock and
    preset memory only seem to last for an hour after the unit has been
    turned off (by it's own volume control).
    
    The unit is in an Astra, and I only found 1 power supply wire into the
    set, which recieves +12v constantly.  I did originally wire it through
    the auxiliary ignition switched supply line, but thought this was
    causing the above problem.  So I re-wired it to the constant, regardless 
    of ignition.
    
    Anyone got any JVC's/suggestions?

    JVC disc player has a power lead, which may be routed via the ignition,
    *AND* a lead to the battery. This is so that it doesn't forget which
    track is playing when you switch off the engine. It didn't have a clock
    on it, but It could be a similar kind of situation. Either that or it
    would have to have some kind of internal battery which is faulty or not
    charging. Speculation only - hope it helps.

    You don't remember what colour the parmanent memory power lead was, do
    you?
    
    I was chatting to a salesman in the JVC stand at the Motorshow over the
    weekend.  He said, from memory it was a 'sort of muddy pink' when he 
    installed a milti-play CD in his car a few months ago.  Which has been 
    stolen, since he has been in Birmingham.  It can happen to anyone...

    Hummmmm, we are talking 7 months here. I do recall an iffy pink/yukky
    purpley kind of lead, but I thought it was either yellow ( with or
    without stripes - not sure ) or orange. The guy whose car it was thinks
    it was orange too. ( We ought to remember better - it was a B@$|ard of a
    job ).

    At risk of being stupidly obvious, have you thought of ringing the
    manufacturer (or importer, assuming it is foreign) and asking him for a
    copy of the book of instructions? In my experience, if you do so
    offering to pay the cost, they usually just send it with a Comp slip,
    cos billing it and tracking the money costs more than it is worth.

    I am that man (the one with the JVC CD player). I had a look last 
    night and the lead WAS orange. Of course, can't guarantee it'll be 
    the same for the Pioneer.
    
    Try ringing this number 081-684-3163. This is for Conrads Car Radios
    in Thornton Heath (Surrey). They have a vast supply of Pioneer's so
    if you speak to James he may be able to help you. 
    
    Mind you, the Pioneers don't go to well what with all the Alpine stock
    they have (everything!) ;-). If anybody is around the area, try popping 
    in, it's very impressive!
