| 921.1 | Not as heavy as an Escort! | FERNEY::KEHILY |  | Fri Jan 12 1990 13:25 | 7 |

We towed an Escort 3 with one a year or so ago, after some kind soul
had tried to steal the Escort and broke the ignition switch. It seemed
to manage without many problems, obviously it struggled a bit. The only
thing it couldn't cope with was the Escort steering lock going on a
corner ... almost pulled both cars off the road! That was a 410, I
    wasn't driving.

| | May not help, but.....

One day after a snowfall I was out playing in my SJ410 when I cam
across a Cortina stranded at the bottom of a hill. I'd been up and down
this particular hill a couple of times, so I decided to do the good
deed and give him a tow to the top.

It didn't work. I couldn't get traction in 4wd, or even low ratio.
Bottom line seemed to be he was too heavy for my little buggy.

p.s. My secretary has a SJ413 that she and her husband use to tow a
trailer with a Jet-ski on. I haven't heard any complaints, but I'll ask
her for more details if poss.

1) moderate sized nit: it isn't a Jeep. Jeep is a registered trade mark of AMC
and should only be applied to that company's product.
2) the SJ410 is only rated at 750 kg tow, so I doubt you should be towing a car
with it!
3) I was once towed out of a snow bank by one (I was driving a real Jeep at the
time, but that's another story - largely the consequence of the absence of
locking diffs on a CJ7) so a short haul tow is probably OK.
If you haven't bought it already I'd suggest the Daihatsu Sportrak as a better
tow car in this category.
