    I built a playhouse similar to the eagle's nest sold at somerville
    and wikes lumber for about half the price.  I had no plans just
    a store brochure, the stores sell the hardware so you can improvise.
    Like building the playhouse over a sandbox, thats what I did and
    the kids love it.  Good luck, Tom

    I do have all the plans that Wicks has ... they give them for free.
    I built one of the three station swing sets with the platform, slide
    and cargo net.  It really came out nice.  The eagles nest is for
    next year.  As far as the playhouse is concerned, I was looking
    for something that would be a little lower to the ground.  I am
    planning on doing daycare in the not too distant future and want
    something that toddlers would be able to play in.
    
    I did find an excellent book with patterns for the stove, sink and
    refrigerator.  It is a Sunset book entitled Children's Furniture.
    It really has some nice ideas for beds, tables, easels, doll houses,
    stove, sink, refrigerator as well as climbing/sliding structures.  I
    think I'll get alot of use out of it.
    
    I am still looking for plans for a rustic (Flinstone) style car
    for outside.  It does not have to move.  Just a stationary car with
    a steering wheel.  I know this shouldn't be too hard, but ... I'm
    not too imaginative when it comes to woodworking just yet.  I just
    got started by doing the swingset.  It's alot easier if I have detailed
    instructions.
    

    How did you do the cargo net? Did the plans include instructions on
    how to create your own? Could you possibly xerox and mail me the
    plans? I don't have a Wicks near me...

    I bought the cargo net through wicks.  They sell any of the components
    for the swingsets or climbing stations that they have plans for.
    Did you want plans for the swingset or just for the cargo net or
    the eagles nest?

    Whom, what, or where is (a) wicks. Sounds interesting (I've got two
    little one at home), and would like to build some yard "toys" as well

    This is basically a foundation-type question. BUT, it is for a 
    swing-set/playground, so that's why I'm here.
    
    I've got a tower of four 4x4x14' with a 4x6 sticking out at 8' for
    swings to be on.
    
    At this time, the entire object is resting on the ground.
    
    What I'm thinking about doing is this: get some Sono tubes, and dig
    holes *next to* the 4x4's. Then put a pair of bolts through the 4x4 
    and half-way through the middle of the tube (with washers and other
    things to grab concrete on the end). Then fill the tubes. A picture 
    would look something like:
    
    		| | 4x4
    		| |
      tube |   || |
    	   | ====== bolt
    	   |   || |
    
    	For reference, the ground level will be 6-12" above the top of the 
    tubes.
    
    	There are a couple of reasons for this idea. 1. the sucker is too
    heavy to move. (the original plan was to have the tubes ready, then
    *move* the structure over to the foundation. But it was vetoed by the
    Comptroller of the Family :^) 2. by using bolts, later
    I can cut between the bolt and the tube, and free up the 4x4.
    
    	A. How big & how deep should the sono-tubes go? (I'm thinking 6"
    		tubes, down 2')
    	B. Does this sound like a good idea overall? Got any suggestions?

    Well, no one answered. Which is either good or bad. :^)
    
    Anyway, last weekend we poured 4 of the 6 tubes. The tower is now
    significantly more stable, and I think when this job is done,
    the whole thing will be quite solid.

    I just wanted to drop this as a reference :
    
       While on RTE 16 through Holliston MA, I noticed that Creative Playthings
    has a factory outlet store. I didn't stop in, but they had all their
    Swingsets out, and etc. out on display. Might be worth checking into
    if your looking for a wood play structure. 

Looking for good pattern for building wooden baby rocking horse. 
 Anyone seen one?

    Would anyone happen to have pointers to plans for building play houses
    for small children?  The local library has little to offer,
    unfortunately, and doesn't appear to have years' worth of magazines
    (such as the Family Handyman mentioned in another note).
    
    The lovely play house that made a cameo appearance at the beginning of
    the New Yankee Workshop looked really nice -- I felt around for a place
    to sit, with my eyes glued to the screen while it was on.

    The local lumber store here has kits which include the hardware (bolts,
    chains for swings, slides, etc.).  They have several different models
    and you can mix and match to some extent.  They even delivered the
    wood, uncut, to my house with the kit.
    
    I'm in AZ, but I'm sure you can get a similar deal there.
