    P. J. Currier Amherst

I used currier when I built my garage 3 years ago. I priced around
and found that you could save $20 here on 2x10s and spend more on
2x4s. Another yard you'd save $18 on 2x4s and spend more on 2x10s.

All in all it was a wash. When you're talking about building a
garage, i.e. $5000 on up, it's the QUALITY of the materials and
the service. I found Currier to be excellent in all respects.
You walk out of there feeling like you spent too much. After you
sit down and really compare, you might have spent a few per cent
more. That few per cent is well worth it when you're nailing together
straight lumber that was delivered when they said they would.

I opened an account with them even though I had no intention of
charging anything with them. It was very convenient for deliveries
and when you go back for that extra 2 2x6s you ran short of.

Just recently I've been dealing with Milford lumber and found them
to be excellent. My neighbor, (a former builder), has been dealing
    with them for years.

I deal mostly with Chagnon in Nashua. I've found them to be alright
but any dealer in Nashua you need to be 'careful' with. I've not
been as satisfied with any dealer in Nashua as I have been with
Currier. Just thought of one exception. There's a little known
small yard on Main Dunstable Road - Holt's Lumber. HE doesn't carry
as much as other yards and I'm not sure how far he delivers but
he is THE BEST YET! (He's also the closest to me) Turns out he's
related to the Curriers - second cousin or somewhat.

    New Boston and Weare.

| | No matter where you decide to go , ask if you can set up a contractors,
or cash account. These accounts are either for contractors or people
w/ large projects going on, and are typically discounted 5 to 10%
off retail.I just added over 1000 sq. ft. to my house and saved
$$$$ .As far as quality ,anything you purchase and are not satisfied
with you should be able to return (implied warranty of
merchantability).I also saved by purchasing the best priced lumber
at different supply yards,ex 2x4's and plywood on sale at store
A ,and 2x6's and roofing material on sale or priced better at store
    B. It pays to shop around.Other things to consider are delivery
fees, and if all the material is "bundled" when you receive it mark
your receipt "not inspected",because the fine print typically says
"all material inspected and in good condition upon receipt"or something
    similar.Good luck...

| 428.5 | Where do I find gum rubber ? | CSG001::MCPHERSON | A mind is a terrible thing... | Wed Jan 11 1989 15:09 | 8 |
| | Anybody know where I can find some sheets (or however it comes) of some
gum rubber (say about 1/8" thick) ? I need it for a project I'mgoing
to start on and I figured this would be a good place to ask. [couldn't
    locate a GUM_RUBBER notes file ;^)]

    All pointers appreciated.

| | What's "gum rubber"? What's it used for? I've never heard of it
by that name except for gum rubber artist's erasers, and maybe
    that's not the same thing.

When in doubt about a product, try the Thomas Register, a 20 or
so volume set of books in a bilious green located in many libraries
and DEC's purchasing departments. The index should list sources
(manufacturers) of almost anything, and you can contact them for
    direct purchase or nearby dealers.

Subj:	Re: Need gum rubber sheeting in ELECTRO_HOBBY
I'd suggest that you find the nearest McMaster-Carr catalog to get
a starting point on your rubber sheeting. The 1988 catalog has
several options starting on page 1938. For instance, their Spring
Rubber Slab Stock (Stock 8630R44, 1/8" thick, $4.72/sq.ft.) is
advertised as "Premium quality rubber stands up under the toughest
abuse. Has excellent tensile and flexural strength.... Durometer
    hardness: 60-70."

If you don't have one of their catalogs, check with your purchasing
folks. They're bound to. If all else fails, call their Sales Desk
    at 312/833-0300.

    Good luck!
